The fourth Oration was delivered by Associate Professor Helen Irving in Parkes NSW.

Helen Irving grew up in rural Victoria, and did her first degree at Melbourne University. She is now Associate Professor in Law at Sydney University, and has recently returned from a year in the United States where she held the Harvard Chair of Australian Studies. She is the author of a number of works, including most recently Five Things to Know about the Australian Constitution. She writes and comments frequently in the media on Australian politics, society and law.
